Volvo Trucks Congratulates Ploger Transportation’s Joel Morrow for Outstanding Fuel Efficiency During Run on Less Roadshow

Volvo Trucks congratulates Joel Morrow of Ploger Transportation on his exceptional fuel efficiency performance during the Run on Less freight efficiency roadshow. Morrow achieved more than 140 ton miles per gallon – defined as payload moved – over the course of more than 6,300 miles driven, loaded at an average gross weight of nearly 62,000 lbs., during the roadshow, making his operations among the most efficient or the seven participating companies. Morrow hauled several payloads of more than 46,000 lbs. over a 1,000 mile length of haul and averaged 10.5 mpg while running at an average road speed of 51 mph.

“Our performance during the Run on Less demonstration really underscores the value of spec’ing the right equipment, and we expect even greater fuel efficiency as we transition our fleet to the new Volvo VNR model,” said Morrow. “Some people question our preference of 11-liter engines, but they’re ideal for general freight applications, allowing us to haul heavier loads while providing more than enough pulling power to tackle any hill. It just makes good business sense.”

Volvo Trucks introduced the new Volvo VNR regional haul model in April 2017, replacing the VNM. Defined by innovations in every area, the new VNR brings a new aerodynamic design, reimagined working environment, passive and active safety systems, gearing and loading efficiencies, and integrated connectivity. The Volvo VNR model, powered by Volvo’s 2017 D11 and D13 engines, provides an overall fuel efficiency gain of up to 3.5 percent compared with the Volvo VNM.
